EU Enlargement Process: First - Recent Circumstances

Abstract
The European Union (EU) is a supranational organization formed in 1993. Over the years, it has continuously received membership applications from various European countries. Joining the EU offers a promising perspective as it provides a structured framework for development and sets clear, achievable goals. However, aspiring member countries (such as Turkey, the Republic of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Albania) face a significant challenge in meeting the environmental acquis requirements. This article dig into the reason and challenges faces by these countries using descriptive analysis and literature study. The results shows that the enlargement process of Eu both has a positive and negative impacts. However, the EU's growth prospects for its members took an unexpected hit when the United Kingdom surprisingly decided to leave the club in January 2020. This departure raised concerns about the EU's cohesion and future trajectory.
