Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of justice and morality in the film Sang Pengadil (2024) and to examine its relationship with the principles of Constitutional Law in Indonesia. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach through film media study, supported by critical discourse analysis and semiotics, using primary data in the form of film observation and secondary data from legal literature. The results show that Sang Pengadil represents justice as a dialectic between formal law and substantive justice, reflected in the moral conflict of a judge facing pressures of power and corrupt practices. Normatively, this representation aligns with the values of Pancasila and the principle of judicial independence as stipulated in the 1945 Constitution; however, in practice, the film reveals a gap between ideal values (das sollen) and reality (das sein) within the Indonesian judicial system. Thus, the film functions not only as entertainment but also as a social critique of law enforcement practices, while emphasizing the importance of judges’ moral integrity in achieving substantive justice.
