Abstract

The rise of self-assessment of psychological conditions through social media, particulary Tik Tok, is now very populer among teenagers. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of exposure to content about avoidant personality or disorder on adolescents' mindsets. This study also examines its impact on decision-making processes and critical thinking skills. Using qualitative methods, a literature review approach, and content observation, this study found that TikTok's algorithm often creates a closed space that validates assumptions without clinical verification. The results show that adolescents who self-diagnose tend to be more susceptible to confirmation bias, which hinders critical thinking skills. Furthermore, the term "avoidant" is often used as a way to avoid social responsibility, ultimately impairing the effectiveness of interpersonal decision-making. This study emphasizes the importance of increasing awareness of digital mental health literacy among adolescents to mitigate the negative impact of inaccurate information about psychology on social media.
